Rainbow Mountain
Full day
This experience is designed for adventure enthusiasts: the impressive Rainbow Mountain. This relatively recent destination in Cusco was covered in ice until just a few years ago, hiding its spectacular multicolored surface. We will depart early from the hotel toward Cusipata, from where we will continue to Phulawasipata, the starting point of our hike.
The ascent will take us along a charming stream, offering the opportunity to enjoy the natural surroundings: herds of llamas and alpacas in their habitat, along with the breathtaking views of Apu Ausangate, the highest snow-capped peak in Cusco. Additionally, we will interact with local residents and observe their daily activities, such as potato farming in the Andean fields.
After approximately an hour and a half of hiking, we will reach Vinicunca, also known as Rainbow Mountain or the Mountain of Seven Colors, located at 5,020 meters above sea level. This moderately challenging hike will be rewarded with an impressive view: the mountain's unique tones, ranging from red and purple to green, yellow, and pink, are the result of the minerals present in the soil. A natural spectacle worthy of capturing in photos and videos.
After enjoying this incredible landscape, we will begin our descent back to Phulawasipata. After completing a total of 8 kilometers of hiking, we will head to Cusipata, where a well-deserved traditional lunch awaits us to recharge before returning.
